Be prepared for the NAB Show

Video producers from around the globe will be converging on Las Vegas in early April for the 2014 NAB Show. There are plenty of surprises that await them at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Video production requires a great deal of technical knowledge, a well developed aesthetic eye, and a good sense of timing. The Video producers who attend the National Association of Broadcasters show, (NAB) will have a chance to deepen their knowledge and refine their craft while at the show. Here are some tips for video producers who will be attending NAB for the first time and a reminder to those long-time attendees.

Schedule The Days

NAB is huge, it's a spectacle to see. Video producers will find vendors there for every possible video tool, gizmo, service, editing software and plug in there is. Video producers should use the NAB Show 2014 website to plan for their trip – it's easy, has links to all the vendors (and directions to find their booth, unlike the proverbial needle in a haystack). They'll be able to find plans for the show floor, vendor guides, and itineraries for lectures and workshops. A schedule will help any Video producer stay on task for the show.

Be Prepared

There is a lot to see and a lot to do. A good pair of running or walking shoes will make the day a lot more comfortable. Many of the vendors hand out useful information and sometimes trade show schwag, it helps to have a good sized backpack to collect things as one goes around the show floor. One important tip that has nothing to do with video producing is to stay hydrated. Las Vegas is in the desert and if attendees are from out of town they might find themselves parched. Drinking water throughout the day will help keep energy and comfort levels up.

Peruse The Product

Did we mention there's going to be a lot of products represented? There will be. Video editors will definitely find items they desire for their edit suite. There will be software releases, plug ins, stock content, controllers and more. They should take the time to peruse all the products that interest them. Product demonstrations will be happening and a video editor can learn a lot from watching the demonstrations. Taking notes will help the video editor remember what products appealed to them and they'll gain a better understanding of what they can do. A lucky producer might find some free product along the way, it does happen and it can be well worth it.

Network

The NAB Show is a great place to network. Video producers in attendance can network with vendors and other video professionals. The good thing is there will definitely be something to talk about. Talk about the new products, talk about the trade in general, talk about ways to gain new clients and how to help existing clients. Networking is a great way to build relationships that will help a video editor grow as a professional. The vendors are friendly and understand your work, they might be able to help you grow your business or hobby in new ways.

Have Fun

NAB is a big show, most of all it's a fun show. For the video professional and the video enthusiast, the NAB Show is a great time to explore and learn. Chances are that most attendees are there voluntarily, make the most of it by enjoying yourself and taking in all that the show has to offer.
